High/Low Tide, WA - Jul 2009

The Strait of Juan de Fuca is affected by high/low tides just like the ocean. Crescent Bay (on the western boundary of Salt Creek Recreation Area) is a dramatic example of the extreme changes between high and low tide. This is the beautiful bay at high tide. The black specs in the water are surfers and kayakers.

The water in the bay is not deep as you can tell by this scuba diver chatting with a kayaker. Also note that both men are encased in waterproof gear - the water is cold.
