Goose Rock - Whidbey Island, WA - Aug 2009

Last Thursday was an especially beautiful day on Whidbey Island -- sunny and clear blue skies and temps in the mid 70s. We decided go for a hike at Deception Pass State Park on the Goose Rock Trail. Goose Rock is the highest point on Whidbey Island and has outstanding views in all directions. It was a bit of a climb to the top, but worth it for the views.

The trail began at the bridge over Deception Pass.
The trail wasn't too long, but all of it was on a steep uphill. We had to stop and catch our breath several times along the way. The trail went through a forest of tall trees until the very end.Then, the trail rounded a corner and led us to a huge, bare rock with awesome views. This is looking south to the Olympic Mountains in the distance.
And looking north to the San Juan Islands. This was a great hike!
