Gloom - Bend, OR - May 2009
The view from our window :-(
Well, we've been here in Bend, Oregon for eleven days and we've had rain, snow, ice, sleet, hail, more rain and a slew of cloudy skies and cold temperatures. This morning we woke up to more snow. What we haven't had is sunshine. On a couple of days, the sun peeked out for an hour or so, but then disappeared behind the clouds almost as quickly as it appeared. The temperature struggles to reach 50 degrees during the day and then dips below freezing most nights. Twice now, we've scheduled a scenic outing because the forecast looked promising, only to have it rain on our parade. Now, the upcoming week's forecast is calling for more clouds and rain.
The inside of our RV looks like a mayhem of wet clothes. Our coats, shoes, socks, gloves and hats are wet, towels are hanging up everywhere. Even the dogs don't want to go outside. Bah humbug!
The thing that puzzles me is the Bend Chamber of Commerce plasters the statement "Bend -- 300 glorious days of sunshine per year" on every tourist publication. I guess we're experiencing the other 65 days -- all at once.
Boy, I am ready for some sunshine.
