Bend, OR - Apr 2009

We pulled into Bend, Oregon on Thursday afternoon and were delighted to find that my folks had already arrived and had picked out two lovely sites at Crown Villa RV Resort.
This is by far, the most upscale RV park that we've stayed in (although a close second is Tiger Run in Breckenridge, Colorado.) The sites are huge with grassy lawns, brick paved pads and wrought iron patio sets all being shaded by towering pines. We even have our own shed to store stuff out from the elements. The long and wide sites allow for extra elbow room and the grassy lawns between rows allows for great scenery and a nice separation from the RVs behind us.

The amenities include an exercise room, hot tub, on staff masseuse, tennis courts, a top notch laundry room and the best showers we've encountered in any RV park. We even have complimentary hot coffee and tea available at the clubhouse. All of this luxury is more expensive than we generally pay, but we're getting an off-season, monthly rate, so it's not too much out of our budget.

We have an end site which is good because we were able to find a little window in the trees to get a signal for our tv and internet services. I would guess that very few of the other sites in here are able to get a satellite tv signal due to the trees. Being on the end, we also have access to a great trail that leads up the hill and over to large field where we can let the dogs run.

While the park is wonderful, I wish I could say the same about the weather. It's been cold! Even though we've had sunshine on a couple of afternoons, it has still felt chilly. I think it's partly because the overnight temperatures are getting down into the 20s and then during the day, even if the sun comes out, it never really warms up the ground because of all the trees that block out the sunshine. Plus, the daytime temperatures have barely reached into the 50s and on top of all that it's been damp. We're hoping that the weather will improve as we get into May.

This morning, we awoke to snow! It snowed big, fat, wet flakes for several hours -- just enough to leave a thin layer on the ground.
