Monticello SP Revisited - Nov 2008

After leaving the cozy, pine-forested Manzano Mountains, we were ready to go someplace where we could once again enjoy wide-open spaces and some pretty views. One of our favorite spots for views is the South Monticello campground in Elephant Butte Lake State Park. It's one of several campgrounds that are sprawled along the shoreline of the largest lake in New Mexico. It's also the most remote -- being about 20 miles from the town of Truth or Consequences. We like the sites that have a view of the lake and we were able to get a nice one right on a bluff overlooking the water.


We also have a great view of the mountains in the distance.

I didn't realize how very much I missed sunsets and sunrises, so it was with delight that we enjoyed a great sunset on our first night here.


The sunrise the next morning was also colorful -- aah, I do love the vistas here.

While this campground has no trees whatsoever, autumn had still painted some of the plants and shrubs. This canyon was just beyond our site and the shrubs were lovely shades of yellow and gold and saffron.
