Chatfield State Park, CO - Sep 2008

After leaving Colorado Springs, we stopped at Chatfield State Park (outside of Denver) for a few days to check out the campground. We had heard good things about this park and had been wanting to stay there, but the timing never seemed to work out. We were pleased to find a large campground, with good-sized sites, plenty of walking trails and nice views of the lake and mountains.

There were several loops in this campground and many of the sites had views of the lake. Even though it was a Sunday afternoon, the loops with full hookups were bustling, so we opted to stay in an electric only site. We had great views and plenty of elbow room.


There is an official hot air balloon launch area within the state park boundaries and on several mornings we were treated to a colorful view of the balloons. This park hosts a hot air balloon festival over Labor Day, so we missed that, but since we were heading to the granddaddy of them all in Albuquerque, we didn't mind.
