Bluewater Lake SP, NM - May 2008

I fell in love with Bluewater Lake State Park from the moment we arrived -- just because of the scenery. It's a small, quiet park that sits high on a hill and commands spectacular views to the lake below. It has good-sized pinyon pines and cedars making it feel more like being in the mountains rather than the desert. There is an assortment of camping sites -- some are tucked into a canyon, others are nestled in the trees and some are perched on a bluff overlooking the lake.

We spent a couple of nights in the Pinyon Cliff section -- no hookups, but wonderful lake views. After a couple of very windy nights when the wind howling off the lake kept us awake all night, we opted to move to the calmer, hookup section.

Here we enjoyed a good-sized patio and, being on the end site, had a fair amount of open space to enjoy the scenery. I also put up my feeders and they were overwhelmed with hungry pinyon jays.
