Llano, TX - Feb 2008

One of our favorite spots to stop for a few days when we're on our way out of Texas is the Llano City Park (aka Badu Park.) The park sits adjacent to the Llano River and has a view to the falls as well as the historic bridge that spans the river.

The city park has RV camping with full hookups for a mere $15/night. It is little more than a paved parking lot, but it backs up to Badu Park and has a wonderful view of the park and the river. It's also within walking distance of Cooper's Barbecue (a famous eatery) and Chrissy's Bakery (not so well known, but makers of irresistible pretzels.)

On a still morning, the river is so incredibly calm that reflections are crisp and clean. Looking across the river to the homes on the other side -- it's hard to tell where the river bank ends and the river begins. Remember, it was winter when this photo was taken, so the grass and trees were still dormant. Imagine this scene in it's springtime's glory.

Although it's a good-sized town, Llano is still considered "out in the country" so it's not unusual to encounter these colorful, "free-ranging" chickens near the park.
