El Vado Lake SP, NM - Aug/Sep 2010

We spent six weeks in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado -- alternating between El Vado Lake SP and Heron Lake SP -- both near Chama, NM. We spent most of that time at El Vado Lake since we preferred the pretty views.
The occasional afternoon clouds gave us a few showers and some gorgeous sunsets. This is our site at El Vado Lake.
The storms even produced lovely rainbows -- including this double bow...

One weekend the park sponsored "Heritage Days" and we watched as fresh chilies and homemade tortillas were grilled. They also had samplings of the two along with some barbecued ribs -- yum.

The fall asters and goldenrod were beginning to bloom during our stay.
Heron Lake SP is in the same area as El Vado -- about 20 miles away. We stayed there for a couple of days. The sites are nice at Heron, but the only view sites are in the non-hookup section. We wanted to have electricity since it was warm enough to need a/c.
We also took a short jaunt up near Antonito, Colorado and stayed at the Ponderosa RV park while we had The RV Guy (Mike & Lisa) do the annual maintenance on our RV. The park is right on the Conejos River and is in a pretty setting although the sites are closely packed together.
