Show Low, AZ - Mar 2009

After leaving Elephant Butte, NM we continued our trek west - this time taking a route that we hadn't been on before -- Hwy 60 from Socorro, New Mexico to Show Low, Arizona. It was a nice drive -- good road and very little traffic. Just outside of Socorro, we passed the Very Large Array -- a series of large, radio antennae. This is one of the 27 antennae -- see how it towers over a nearby cabin. The grounds were used in the movie "Contact" with Jodie Foster.

A stop in Springerville gave us a good chuckle at this colorful street name.

We spent two nights at Fool Hollow Lake State Park - a park we had been to before, but a good place to stop and wait out the windy and rainy storm that passed through. Our site was nestled in the pines and, while it was very windy, we were sheltered from being battered around.

A break in the rain let us take a walk to the boat ramp -- still very chilly though at nearly 6,000' elevation in the White Mountains.

One of our favorite sites at Fool Hollow overlooking an arm of the lake that runs through a colorful canyon. Sadly, this loop of the campground was closed for the winter, but we still walked over to admire the views.

We spent two nights at Fool Hollow before heading to our next destination -- Lees Ferry, Arizona.
