More Zion - Mar 2009

We love our pretty site at Watchman Campground and enjoy just patio sitting and looking at the amazing surroundings. The weather has been perfect -- warm and sunny, but not hot. The cool mornings make it a delight to sit out in the sun and soak up some vitamin D. Here's Frank and the dogs enjoying a sunny morning.

The view from our patio is of the majestic Watchman. His colors change during the day from dull browns and grays during the morning to glowing red as the sun is setting. I've gotten up several times over the past few nights to take in the full moon as it lights up The Watchman. A really cool sight, but not one that I could capture in a photo. Instead, here is a picture of the first tree in the campground that is beginning to leaf out as The Watchman towers above.

There is still a dusting of snow on the higher plateaus, but the warm weather is causing it to melt quickly.

Another panoramic picture of one of the canyons near the park's museum.

On this evening, one of our fellow campers put on concert using, of all things, an alpenhorn (you know, the instrument in the Ricola cough drop commercial.) Anyway, it was a pretty cool sound -- deep, mellow and sounding a bit like a tuba on steroids.
