Yippee — A New Puppy!

We (Frank & I and my folks) left San Antonio on New Year's Day and traveled to Richmond Texas (southwest of Houston) where we stayed at Brazos Bend State Park. We went there specifically because it was close to where my parents needed to go to pick up their new puppy! They had been thinking about getting a puppy for a long time and it was last summer that they decided it was time. The really liked the personalities of our Japanese Chin so they decided to get a black & white, female Chin puppy. They had looked around for awhile, but were finding it difficult to locate a breeder who had exactly what they were looking for. Knowing that they would be in Texas over the holidays, they were finally able to locate a breeder near Houston who had a puppy that met all their qualifications.

Even before they picked her up, my folks had selected a name for her —"Yoshi Chou" — Yoshi means free spirit and Chou means butterfly. When we arrived at the kennel the caretaker took us right to Yoshi's cage and he reached in, picked her up and then handed her to George. Yoshi was trembling so hard, but George's gentle voice and tender touch calmed her down within a few minutes. I think it was then and there that they bonded and Yoshi has been following George everywhere ever since.

.....And vice-versa as the case may be.....
Watching George cuddle with Yoshi and hearing him talk to her was heartwarming — especially when he got down on her level and pretended to be another dog — too cute! Right from the beginning George would let Yoshi walk with him as he took the trash to the dumpster and she would follow along on his heels, looking up at him the whole time. It was just adordable to watch her idolize her new daddy.

While at the breeders, we introduced our dogs,Rudy & Scotty, to Yoshi. Scotty wanted nothing to do with her being the spoiled, jealous little guy that he is. However, Rudy and Yoshi got along immediately and must have recognized a kindred spirit in each other. They were so cute as they checked each other out and we joked that Rudy has his own "Mini-Me".

Even though Rudy is considered in his "geriatric" years, he still found the energy to romp and play with Yoshi. He also was so very patient with her puppy nips and would tolerate them up to a point whereupon he would quietly growl and pin her down with his front paw and then let her go. Yoshi would back off for a split second and then would go right back to biting his ears and tail.
