About Us....

We are "50-something" baby-boomers who decided to ditch our high-stress jobs, retire early, do some traveling and have some fun while we are still healthy enough to go for long hikes in beautiful places. We met each other in Santa Barbara, California in 1975. Chris was attending college and Frank was working with Burroughs Corporation. We met one evening at a single's square dance and have been each other's favorite dance partner ever since.

Frank was born and raised in San Antonio. He graduated in 1973 from the University of Texas at Austin with a BSEE degree. Upon graduation, this fifth generation Texan moved to Santa Barbara, California where he and Chris met. After 8 years, he convinced Chris that Texas was a great place to live and so we relocated to Austin in 1983. Over the years, Frank worked as a design and verification engineer at several high-tech companies including Burrough's, Tandem Computers, Rockwell, IBM and Motorola. He retired in June 2005 from Freescale Semi-conductors.

Chris was born in San Diego, California and was raised in the San Fernando Valley. She graduated in 1977 from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a BS degree in Computer Science. She was proud to be one of the first women to complete a degree in the University's newly established Computer Science program. Chris worked as a systems analyst for several companies including Burrough's, ECCO and Motorola. After experimenting with her own energy conservation business for several years, she finally found her perfect job as the Director of Information Services at St. Edward's University in Austin and enjoyed almost 15 years there before retiring in 2001.

We travel with our two dogs -- Rudy and Scotty. They are both Japanese Chin and are about twice as big as the breed standard -- hence we call them our "Double Chins!" Rudy (black & white) is 12 years old and Scotty (red & white) is 11. They are half brothers -- having the same sire.

Before we retired, both dogs were certified as therapy dogs with the program Therapy Pet Pals of Texas. We all enjoyed many years with this dedicated and fun group of volunteers. Rudy & Scotty are excellent travelers and, at last count, have hiked the trails of 22 states and 2 provinces and have dipped their paws in oceans, lakes and rivers all across the country.

UPDATE: In June 2010, we lost our dear Rudy to congestive heart failure. He will always be with us in our hearts. See our memorial to him here.

After 22 years of living in the same house in Austin, Texas, we decided it was time for a change - and change we did! We are now full-time RVers who are traveling in a 30' Lazy Daze motorhome. We sold our house and shed most of our worldly belongings and on January 1st, 2005, we moved into our home on wheels.

Let the fun begin!

Just in case you were wondering, we chose "The Rainbow Chasers" as our theme because our favorite song is "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" (we have at least 20 versions of it) and the song's lyrics seem to best reflect how we got to this point in our lives.
Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true
